Fyn: A Young Philanthropist and MNUFC Soccer Fan

Fyn is a 10-year-old with a big heart, a love for learning, and an unstoppable passion for soccer, science, math, and animals. He’s also a proud big brother to Sollomon, his half-brother! Since he was 7 years old, he’s been using his birthday not as a chance to receive presents, but as a way to raise money for causes he cares deeply about.

Let’s rewind a little—to where it all began: on the soccer field.

BORN TO PLAY

“My mom says I’ve been playing soccer since I learned to run!”. And now, as both a striker and a goalie for Northstar FC in Rochester, Minnesota where he’s played for three years - he’s become a strong, skillful player who thrives on the energy and challenge of the game. When he’s in goal, his passion shines brightest. He loves the responsibility, the rush of adrenaline, and the chance to protect his team from defeat.

His dream? To one day play professional soccer, inspired by receiving a very special birthday gift of tickets to see a Minnesota United Football Club (MNUFC) game at Allianz Stadium – Home of the Loons!

Fyn was hooked: watching the pros play, seeing his home team win, and singing Wonderwall, the Loons’ victory song, with a stadium full of fans!

But for Fyn, soccer is about more than just winning. “I love the game because it teaches that teamwork is important. I also like that you can play with somebody who maybe doesn’t speak the same language as you and you can understand each other on the field.”

That love of connection and teamwork carries over into every part of Fyn’s life—including his birthday tradition.

Making a Difference Since his Seventh Birthday

Fyn's journey as a young philanthropist was inspired by his fascination with sharks. His first fundraiser earned $100 which he donated to a shark research organization so he could help scientists protect them and their ocean habitats.

Fyn’s family also has a long history of fostering dogs through No Dogs Left Behind.  So, it was only natural, that the following year, he secured donations of toys, food, money and treats for his favorite local shelter. “I wanted to make sure they had everything they needed and a nice place to sleep.”

The next year, his focus shifted to the furry and four-legged. He raised money for a local animal shelter, making sure dogs and cats had food, water, comfy beds, and fun toys while they waited for loving homes.

This Year: Doing Good Stuff

Partnering with DGS United, Fyn is combining his love for soccer with his mission to help people through the Charity Card Club (CCC) program. This year’s CCC pledges will support CommonBond Communities, an organization whose mission is to improve access to quality affordable housing in Minnesota.

With two of these properties near Allianz Field, Fyn couldn’t be more excited to support the community near the Home of the Loons and beyond. Fyn’s goal is to raise $300, and if history is any guide, he’s sure to reach (or beat!) it.

A Future Full of Possibility

Fyn is the kind of kid who inspires everyone around him—teammates, classmates, family, and even strangers. Fyn is already living a life of purpose. And while he dreams of playing for the Loons, and maybe even Team USA someday, he’s already a champion in our eyes—for the way he uses his birthday, his talents, and his voice to help others.

Happy Birthday, Fyn. Keep dreaming big, playing hard, and giving with your whole heart. The world needs more players like you—on and off the field. ⚽💙🌎🦈🐾

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful parents of Fyn: Keisha, a tour operator for Ed-Ventures, a family-owned group travel company; and Marty, who teaches Advanced Learning for Rochester Public Schools for raising such a generous and compassionate young individual.

Fyn’s recent donation to our charity is a powerful reflection of the values instilled in him at home—values of kindness, empathy, and community service. It's clear that these qualities are part of a family legacy, and we’re sure Fyn’s little brother, Sollomon, is growing up with the same inspiring example. We are truly thankful for the Fyn and his family and their commitment to making a difference.
